Plastic surgery of the ears is carried out to correct prominent auricular pavilions or to correct the size of them. Ear deformity is a question of genetic inheritance and does not have a well-known cause. Most operations are carried out in children between the ages of 6 and 14 years, in order to prevent psychological bullying from peers, it is also common in adults, obtaining the same aesthetic results.
Otoplasty is carried out in the clinic, on an outpatient basis if under local anaesthetic and if it requires intravenous sedation or general anaesthetic for medical reasons, the patient will be hospitalised for one day.
The surgical technique most commonly used is done by an incision behind the ear to be able to expose the cartilage which will be reshaped and slimmed down according to each particular case. Stitches are usually placed in the cartilage until the desired folding is achieved and this way the ear takes on a new shape.
