Abdominoplasty

Surgical intervention that consists of the total remodelling of the abdomen and waist. The main candidates for this surgery are women who have had one or more pregnancies or who have lost a lot of weight.

The procedure is performed under general or regional anaesthesia and consists of five main steps:

• Dermolipectomy, which involves removing all excess skin and fat, the so-called abdominal apron, from the abdomen.
• The abdominal wall is reconstructed by using sutures to pull the rectus abdominis muscles together.
• Skin closure: suturing of the skin flap that was formed.
• Repositioning of the umbilicus (neoumbilicoplasty).
• Finally, and if necessary, liposuction of the flanks and hips, with which the body contour is remodelled.

Liposuction

A technique used to remove unwanted fat deposits from superficial areas of the body, including the chin, neck and cheeks; upper arms and upper breasts; abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs and knees. Liposuction is not used as a substitute for weight reduction, but as a method of removing localised fat that is not easily removed by other means.

If the procedure is not extensive, liposuction can be done under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area, combined with sedatives that will make you feel a little relaxed. You will be awake but relaxed and feel minimal discomfort. If you plan to suction a large area or treat several locations you will probably need a general anaesthetic. You will usually require a one day hospital stay.

Liposculpture

It is known as surgery without a scalpel, as there is no plastic surgery, but it shapes the body while eliminating the volumes of fat that disfigure it. It is indicated for young people who have an apparently normal weight but are unable to eliminate small accumulations of fat, neither with physical exercise, nor with severe and demanding diets; but also for older or overweight people.

Liposculpture allows fat to be removed from the body while specifically shaping the area being treated. It is considered to be a handcrafted, sophisticated and much less traumatic procedure.
